UCP of Tampa Bay’s family services are designed to support not only the individual with a disability, but also the larger family unit.

Family Support

UCP's Family Support staff creates a flexible, individualized program based on the specific needs of participating families, focusing on their strengths, needs and preferences. Services may include family functional assessments, family guidance, referral, parenting skill development and training to support bonding between parents and children.

Through the program, families can learn about community resources and how to access them, and develop formalized strategies to reach their goals.

SibShops, a family support program, provides support and guidance to young people who have a sibling with a disability. Through participation in SibShops, they can develop a better understanding of their sibling’s disability, spend time with peers who have a sibling with a disability, share their feelings in a safe and understanding environment and participate in enjoyable activities with peers. For additional information about Sibshops email or call 813-239-1179, ext. 251.

Respite Services

UCP's in-home respite service, provides trained workers to assist those who provide care for individuals of all ages with all disabilities. These services are available in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Hernando, Citrus and Pasco Counties. This much-needed support for caregivers helps maintain the integrity of the family, while often preventing the need for institutionalization of the family member with a disability or the senior adult who needs special care.

Respite provides temporary relief for families and other caregivers, decreasing feelings of isolation, allowing them to engage in non-caregiving daily activities and increasing their ability to cope with day-to-day caregiver responsibilities. Respite services can also assist in crisis situations.

UCP's Respite Services program is accredited by The Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitations Facilities or CARF, recognizing the efforts UCP has made to enhance the quality of services and programs, as well as the focus on consumer satisfaction.

For more information about UCP's Respite Services please email the Respite Care Coordinator or call 813-239-1179, ext. 232.
