Inside a company creating mixed-reality technology technology company

Imagine playing an immersive video game where you are battling robot attackers right in your own living room, or shopping for sneakers from the comfort of your sofa, with realistic 3D images of the shoes floating right in front of you. It sounds like science fiction, but a new tech company, Magic Leap, is about to make it all real with a new technology called “mixed-reality” — or MR for short. Wire Magazine senior staff writer Jessi Hempel got to sample MR technology at Magic Leap’s South Florida headquarters. She joins “CBS This Morning: Saturday” to discuss her experience, how the technology works and why it could be a game changer. .

  1. A far fetched idea but potentially in the future we could see people wearing Mixed Reality glasses everyday that look just like regular glasses. This would take much more complex, cheaper and smaller technology however.

  2. The problem that this type of technology will always butt up against when it's trying to replace a phone with goggles or glasses is how image conscious their target market is. Many people don't want to wear something on their face all day that changes how they look. Until they can be used as contact lenses, they will be limiting their appeal as an everyday device.

  3. I hate when people say that VR is just a baby step because you're completely out of your own reality. YEAH. THAT'S WHAT I WANT. IT'S CALLED IMMERSION. MY REALITY IS BORING

  4. It is advance where you can touch augmented reality, yet until in your reality; virtual reality where you can see for real, as it is real in device, yet in your reality. So it is not basic to advanced mixed reality yet like Sword Art Online, yet can go to any direction without base device for your motion. Except your eyes.

  5. It's not Mixed Reality (MR). What is being displayed is called Augment Reality. Mixed Reality would be a device that is capable of doing both Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) like the HoloLens, and I am sure with in time this device will be able to do VR as well then the device can be know as a MR device.

  6. It is still Augmented Reality (AR). You can try to rename it all you want, but the fact is that it is still AR. Mixed Reality (MR) would be a device that is able to do both VR and AR.

  7. ML is good at talking twaddle. The CEO talks shit as good as it gets. They have no product and their supposed 'lightweight headset' is a figment of his vivid imagination. Where are the processors and batteries ? Or are they just magic too ?

  8. She seems to be clapping 100%  for Google because she got the exclusive access. Understood!!! Hololens from MS is Mixed reality and MS is far ahead ahead like 5 years from Magic Leap today. She called Hololens as Augmented Reality which is wrong. But Magic leap has one good thing and that is they can copy the tech and the ideas from real world Gadgets like  Hololens & Meta 2 to move faster. And Google is very good at copying.
