I always imagined teleportation pods that were like giant hollow cylinders that you could place in the corner of a room. It would help with long distance relationships. You would put yourself or whatever object you wanted to teleport in the pod and then enter a 10 digit code corresponding to the pod you want to send it to.

All of these technologies sound great except for the fact that it's not.
Half of this technologies have been around for a long time.
And just because something can improve the quality of another won't me it will. In fact it's more likely than whatever technology catches on in that field will take over the hole filled itself.

Just getting to the closest neighboring star, Alpha Centuri would take over 4 years traveling at 100% the speed of light (78,000 years with current spacecrafts, for a reference recorded history only goes back about 5000 years). Then you have to consider impact with space debris that most sci-fi universes overlook entirely. Hitting dust the size of a grain of sand at approaching light speed would be catastrophic. Then there's the issue with plotting a course, since everything you see in the sky isn't it's current location nor in it's current state. Let's focus on getting to Mars you know, one step at a time.
